As part of our effort to increase elder abuse awareness in Maine, we’re posting more frequently on our Facebook page.  Our posts focus on demystifying elder abuse, promoting justice and equality for older adults, sharing key resources, and highlighting the interconnectedness of elder abuse across many different domains.  We’ll also include program-specific news as we continue to grow and innovate.

Recent posts have included:

• A discussion of food insecurity among older adults in Maine, marking March as National Nutrition Month;

• An examination of how gender inequality across the lifespan contributes to a greater likelihood of poverty – as well as abuse and neglect – among women in later life; 

• A “share” of a terrific – but sobering – article in the Portland Press Herald about the cascading effects of a lack of long-term care beds for hospitalized individuals who no longer need a hospital level of care but are not well enough to return to their own homes; and

• A post in honor of Transgender Visibility Day, which highlights the work of portrait photographer Jess T. Dugan and the intersectional challenges faced by trans elders.
